12-month Deep Dive with Fleur De Wit
My deep dive with Emilia has been nothing short of transformative.
I went into the process with a broken relationship to my voice; having gigged as a singer, but always doubting my right to be on stage because I wasn’t technically perfect, and feeling disconnected from any sense of purpose or direction in how I chose my repertoire, my musical collaborations, and the gigs I said yes to.
I had a very rigid idea of what a good singer is, and I thought I wasn’t good enough to have permission to be an artist.
Over the course of this year working with Emilia, my perspective has changed completely: she helped me remember that singing is about communication, not perfection, and bit by bit, I reconnected with my desire to tell stories.
The foundation of this was a kind of radical self-acceptance: Emilia encouraged me to embrace my voice exactly as it is, with all the influences and life experience that have made it that way. By inviting me to lean into what I thought of as my vocal limitations, she helped me see that they are actually my superpowers.
From this framework of safety and self-acceptance, I was able to start getting curious about my voice again. Through play, experimentation, and compassion, we were able to unlock an expression that felt totally honest and unique to me. This is Emilia’s superpower: recognising, coaxing out and nurturing the things that make you you.
The beauty of the process is that Emilia meets you where you are: we moved at my pace, took the stumbling blocks as they came and found new ways around them.
Having structured check-ins and regular sessions, receiving feedback from Emilia on my work in between our meetings, and her continual support over a long-term period meant that things could take the time they needed to emerge.
In the past I have abandoned creative ambitions because I didn’t feel able to navigate my insecurities alone: having someone to discuss and overcome the mental hurdles with is what allowed me to gradually move from resistance into making art.
The deep dive culminated in a workshop in Berlin with Emilia and an incredible musician, and recording some songs in the studio. Collaborating with a musician after this whole journey of experimentation and self-discovery was amazing: I felt open, confident, and really ready to play. The result was something new and surprising, beyond what I could have imagined for myself. It was a real breakthrough in terms of how free I could be. Recording in a studio has always been a daunting prospect to me, and gaining that experience, in this safe space with Emilia and a musician I trusted completely, was invaluable.
It is clearly difficult for me to summarise everything I have gained from this deep dive. Maybe the thing I’m most excited about is a clearer sense of my taste, my musical direction, and what I value as an artist. Through this process, I learned that there are a million ways to approach a song, and that these choices are what make my individual perspective as an artist.
I have also come away from it with a deeper ability to listen to myself and to trust my instincts, a new belief in my capacities as a storyteller, and a curiosity to keep discovering and honing my own unique expression. I am so excited to take these tools into new collaborations and the making of my first EP.

After ten years away from the stage, my goals were clear: to refocus on music, strengthen my vocal abilities, expand my repertoire, and rebuild my confidence as a performer — all while working on a new album. I gave myself one year to accomplish all of this.
Emilia and I began our 1:1 vocal sessions online in May 2025, and I later participated in her Jazz Vocal Artist Retreat in Slovenia. Each experience had a profound impact on my musicianship and artistry, and brought me exactly where I had hoped to be a year later.
In my previous musical journey, my work centered around R&B, pop, rap, and Latin music. Emilia introduced me to jazz, guided me through the jazz approach to music as a whole.
This shift expanded not only my technical abilities, but also the way I listen, interpret, and inhabit music.
Emilia is not only an exceptional musician, but a deeply intuitive artistry coach. With these two strengths combined, she truly takes her students beyond vocals. From group vocal warm-ups and band-leadership workshops to journaling, artistry conversations, and live stage performances, Emilia supports the artist in their entirety.
During the Summer Jazz Program, I experienced a complete emotional breakdown. I was confronted with my greatest fear: workshopping and performing a song in front of a small group of peers. I cried for the rest of the day and seriously considered walking away from music altogether. Yet, surrounded by immense talent — each artist in their own vulnerable, exposed state — I found the strength to continue. With Emilia’s guidance and what I often call our “music/artist therapy” sessions, I’ve learned how to move through creative blocks rather than retreat from them.
In just seven months of working with Emilia, I had grown tremendously as an artist. I am well on my way to achieving every goal we set at the beginning — and more importantly, I’ve rediscovered my confidence, resilience, and joy in making music.

Emilia has been instrumental in developing my new present mindset as an artist. She has helped me explore what I truly want for my future and more importantly, to value and accept myself and my artistry for where I am now - and to celebrate each unique step of my journey.
One aspect of working with Emilia that I have found so special and unique to her is the way that she doesn’t try to apply one structure or set of suggestions or tools to every person.
Instead, she listens, asks thoughtful questions, and structures/strategizes/curates an entire way of working together with the individual so everything is specifically tailored.
Working with Emilia is like having a friend, peer, colleague, mentor, and therapist/spiritual guide all in one.
I made the decision to pivot away from a classical career after 15 years on a very specific path.
Not only has Emilia helped me navigate the change emotionally and mentally, but she has worked with me to set specific musical goals and strategies to achieve them - including, but not limited to repertoire learning, skill development, bandleading and song arranging/presentation.
She brings an abundance of knowledge, expertise, personal experience, and compassion into her mentorship relationships that foster trust and make people feel deeply understood.
I cannot express enough how invaluable it has been to have her in my corner and to know she always has my happiness and success in mind.
